Christmas Special

Well it's Christmas, and yes i got some presents... So i'm gonna share some of the things i got.

- Ornithology, Charlie Parker.

There a lot of good pieces on this prime cd, which features ballads and of course a lot of be-bop. The one i got is a sort of compilation with three CD's each with 14 tracks. Which is almost every one of Charlie Parkers own compositions.

- Juju (1964), Wayne Shorter.

I'm a big fan of Wayne Shorter, and this CD features a lot of great stuff of his. One of the things i like about it is, that it seems like the melody and the chords have been written at the same time, instead of laying down a bunch of chords and adding a melody or the other way around. Here's the title track, Juju:

This piece features a fantastic drum solo by Elvin Jones himself. McCoy Tyner on Piano and Reggie Workman on Bass and of course Wayne Shorter on Tenor Saxophone. But as a drummer i will of course recommend checking Elvin's solo out.

- Duke Ellington meets Coleman Hawkins (1962), Duke Ellington.

This album features an octet with the following:

There a lot of smooth stuff on this one and is sure worth listening to. Here's one of Duke Ellingtons early ones (1930), which is also included on this album:

- Heavy Weather (1977), Weather Report.

Here's one classic also with Wayne Shorter. And of course Jaco, Acuna, Zawinul and Badrena. This one speaks for itself as it is widely known among many, especially this one:

Then i also got a few rock albums:

- Raw Power (1973) , Iggy and the Stooges.

This is some of the earliest punk, and is a must have for anybody who likes punkrock.

- Troen & Ingen (2010), Søren Huss.

This is a very beautiful danish album, by former Saybia frontman.

Hope everybody had a nice Christmas!

Christmas Spirit

Because of the occasion i have decided to share this brilliant track with you. It is composed by Thad Jones (Elvin Jones brother). It is a very beautiful piece if i where to say for myself. But there's a bit of mystique about this piece, because some say that it is written as a christmas song to jesus. But when i have heard this song live it has sometimes been introduced as a song to his son. Nevertheless i think has a christmas spirit to it, so it thought i would share it.

Enjoy the Christmas everybody.

Godfather of fusion

I got a little inspired by the Gil Evans track, and started listening to some of my old Jimi. So here is what i would call one of the first fusion tracks ever to be made.

Enjoy!

Just stumpled upon this fantastic track. Awesome drummer, not much more to say as the music speaks for itself.

Happy Birthday

Today Jaco Pastorius would have turned 60, so to salute the king of fusion bass, i've chosen this track for today.

Enjoy!
